DIGNITY ACTION MOVEMENT
Our Effort to Endure! Real Change is Possible!
Our Mission Statement:
The broad mission of DIGNITY is to educate and organize the public in furtherance of the ideals and goals set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We take seriously the United Nations General Assembly's 1948 admonition that it is the responsibility of "every individual and every organ of society" to secure the "universal and effective recognition and observance" of this "common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations."
As a voluntary association of individuals and organizations struggling to create a global society in which every person is accorded "the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality," DIGNITY will engage in the widest range of educational and organizational activities protected under the Constitution of the United States. Recognizing that individual rights to "life, liberty and security of person" are inextricably linked with the "right to social security," to work that provides for an "existence worthy of human dignity," to the "right to a standard of living adequate" for "health and well-being," and the right to a free education "directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms," DIGNITY will work to achieve the political, social, and economic conditions, and legal framework, in which the goals of the Declaration can become realities.
Understanding the indivisibility of justice and the interdependence and common aspirations of the world's peoples, DIGNITY will seek alliances and undertake joint projects with individuals and organizations worldwide. Our work will be guided by principles of solidarity with all peoples struggling for self-determination, globally and within the borders of the United States.
